What Does Bush's Transfer Mean to the Other Receivers?

Today, Head Coach Neal Brown, announced that wide receiver Tevin Bush is entering the transfer portal. Bush hasn’t played much this season for the Mountaineers, so this just means that the young names you have already heard from will have to continue to play, which I believe is a good thing for West Virginia.

Freshman who will now have a chance to show the country their names:

I actually think there is a silver-lining in this because now Ali Jennings (true freshman), Winston Wright (true freshman), and Bryce Wheaton (redshirt freshman), will now get more chances to play and develop. Jennings already has seven catches for 57 yards and one touchdown, Wright has nine catches for 41 yards, Wheaton has three catches for 50 yards and one touchdown. These three young men will now have a chance to play against Big 12 competition and this will ultimately help West Virginia for the future. The more snaps these guys play, the better they will be down the line. But don’t think they can’t produce now, these are guys at receiver position who can still help this team win.

More names who we have heard this season who will have to continue to step up:

• Sam James, a redshirt freshman, has stepped up for this team and has put up big numbers already. He leads the team with 37 catches and 359 yards, and has brought in two touchdowns. James showed Mountaineer Nation who he truly was when he exploded in the NC State game when he had nine catches for 155 yards and one touchdown. He did suffer an injury in the Texas game, but it doesn’t seem to be slowing him down at all. Look for James to continue his big year as he has made it clear that he is the best offensive threat for the Mountaineers.
• T.J. Simmons, a redshirt junior, has finally emerged as the player we all knew he could be. He stepped up when Sam James and Sean Ryan got hurt and has played well the past few weeks. He is second on the team with 25 catches and 335 yards, and is tied for second on the team with two touchdowns. We all knew Simmons was special last year when his first career catch as a Mountaineer went for a big touchdown against Tennessee. Look for the Alabama transfer to make a name for himself to finish the season as the guy who will lead the team in receiving by time the season ends.
• George Campbell, a redshirt senior, who was a graduate transfer from Florida State, actually leads the team with three touchdown catches. With injuries and young talent, this is a chance for the older veteran to stand out and use his experience to help the Mountaineers. West Virginia needs a guy like Campbell both on the field and in the locker room to show the young guys how to grow and be professional.
