Top-35 2027 Recruit Locks In Official Visit to WVU

Ross Hodge is going after another top recruit in the '27 class.

Another top recruit in the 2027 class has locked in an official visit date with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Four-star big man Tyran Frazier (6'11", 200 lbs) of The Principia School in St. Louis, Missouri, will make the trip to Morgantown on September 25th. The news was first reported by Sam Kayser of League Ready.

According to ESPN, Frazier is the No. 32 player in the 2027 recruiting class and the seventh-best power forward. The only recruits who rank ahead of him are C.J. Rosser (undecided), Paul Osaruyi (undecided, WVU heavily pursuing), Moussa Kamissoko (undecided), Ahmed Nur (undecided), Ahmad Hudson (LSU commit), and Zion Green.

In 10 games with RWE at Overtime Elite, he averaged 6.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 49% from the field. Last summer at The Peach Jam, he averaged 6.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 1.2 BPG.

The quick scouting report on Tyran Frazier

Very comfortable with the ball in his hands, which is not typical for a big man, of course. He is capable of going end to end with it or bringing it up the court, if needed. Very skilled handles, even able to operate through traffic or heavy ball pressure. The three-point shot is still a work in progress, but he has shown that he has the ability to do it, occasionally stepping out and knocking one down. Incredibly long and can affect passing lanes. Shot blocking is not where you would expect it to be, but it is certainly a part of his game that will be developed at the next level once he gets a better understanding and feel for when to rise up.

Frazier/Osaruyi's recruitments are not tied together

You may think that if West Virginia lands Paul Osaruyi, they will stop pursuing Frazier, or vise versa. That is not the case whatsoever. Ross Hodge will go after both of these highly-rated recruits and let the playing time sort itself out if he's able to land both. Frazier may be listed as a power forward because of his athleticism, but I think once he fills out his frame, he would be better suited to anchor the five spot. Osaruyi just feels like a more natural fit at the four to me. And yes, the Mountaineers have a solid young trio of bigs in Mo Sylla, Amadou Seini, and Aliou Dioum, but no one knows how that's all going to pan out.
