A First in School History: 3 Hat Tricks Lead Wisconsin Women's Hockey to Victory

It wasn't just another win; it was a message sent loud and clear. Last Friday, the Wisconsin women's hockey team demolished Lindenwood 16-1 at the Centene Community Ice Center. The Badgers were nothing short of amazing, making Friday a day for the record books.

Unprecedented Hat Tricks

Cassie Hall, Lacey Eden, and Sophie Helgeson didn't just help their team win; they made history. For the first time in the school's hockey program, three Badgers achieved hat tricks in the same game. Hall went above and beyond, scoring four goals, making her only the 8th player in school history to accomplish this feat.

Other Key Contributors

It wasn't just the hat trick heroes who stood out. Kelly Gorbatenko, Caroline Harvey, Britta Curl, Sarah Wozniewicz, Marianne Picard, and Kirsten Simms also found the back of the net, contributing to the team's record-setting 16 goals.

A Streak Continues: The Lindenwood Rivalry

This win marks the Badgers' 16th consecutive victory over Lindenwood, a streak that dates back to 2012. Clearly, Wisconsin has had Lindenwood's number for nearly a decade, and this game was no exception.

Looking Ahead: The Boston College Series

The Badgers are set to return to Madison where they will host Boston College in a Thursday-Friday series at LaBahn Arena. The home opener on Thursday is slated for a 7 p.m. start, with two-time Olympian Karyn Bye-Dietz set to drop the ceremonial first puck. And on Friday, the Badgers will raise their 2023 NCAA Championship Banner, setting the stage for what promises to be another electric contest.

Final Thoughts

The Badgers' performance against Lindenwood is nothing short of a statement game, reminding everyone why they are top-ranked. If they continue to play at this level, the sky's the limit for what they could achieve this season.
