League of Legends players have been awaiting the 2v2v2v2 game mode ever since it was announced a long while back and it now has a release date — that’s quite soon.

A massive summer event is coming to League of Legends that is rumored to be bigger and better than previous events. Developers confirmed in January 2023 that this would include a new 2v2v2v2 game mode after struggling to get a new game mode going behind the scenes.

When Is 2v2v2v2 Coming to League Of Legends?

The new arena brawler mode is coming to League of Legends on July 20, 2023.

This was first revealed along with a new teaser trailer for the game mode that initially left fans confused. While it was initially believed to be a hint at Project L, League players soon realized that it was a dynamic look at the new game mode.

What Is 2v2v2v2?

The uniquely animated teaser did not reveal much more about the game mode itself, but over time we have gathered some interesting information about what League players can expect.

2v2v2v2 has four teams of two players that are competing to get the most kills. It’s a deathmatch mode but with a lot of twists. Between rounds, players buy items and level up as they grow ever more powerful. They will gain special powers called Augments, inspired by a mechanic featured in Teamfight Tactics.

Augments are essentially power-ups that provide champions with unique builds. Riot gave some examples earlier this year, including Sylas being able to cast Lissandra’s W every five seconds and Ekko with a 500-attack range.

New Skin Line Inspired By Soul Fighter

To make the new game mode’s arrival even more exciting, it has been announced that it will come with a new skin line inspired by a fighting game called Soul Fighter.

The skin line was previously leaked by prominent leaker BigBadBear. He shared a video last month that outlined what he learned about the Soul Fighter skin line.

In his video, BigBadBear said that 10 or more skins are coming, all tied together with an intense backstory. Champions will compete in something called the Tournament of Souls, fighting 1v1 in hopes of coming out on top with a piece of the Soul Gem. This grants a single wish to whoever possesses it.

BigBadBear went on to say that the skin line goes along with the theme of the new 2v2v2v2 mode.

League of Legends fans are already fearful that 2v2v2v2 may only last a year or so before Riot Games pulls it out of the game. LoL is not known for having a wide array of game modes to choose from, which is why this new game mode has become so highly anticipated. Luckily, it’s only a month away if all goes according to plan.
