The Force Will Be Strong In Toledo Tomorrow Evening

May 4 is a something of a holiday in the Star Wars fan community -- "May the fourth be with you," as the joke goes -- and the Toledo Mud Hens are getting into the Kashyyykian spirit.

The Class AAA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers will wear special edition Chewbacca-inspired jerseys on Saturday and Sunday (i.e. "Revenge of the Fifth"), with the uniforms to be made available via an in-game silent auction for charity. The team will also serve Yoda Soda and give 3,000 kazoos away for the fans to perform a post-game Star Wars-themed concert.

The Mud Hens aren't the only team strong in the ways of the Force. The Philadelphia Union, Real Salt Lake and L.A. Galaxy are also on board for this weekend's games, paying tribute to the beloved movie franchise with a series of promotions, interactive games and appearances by costumed characters. Same with the Tampa Bay Force of the Arena Football League, who host their own Star Wars night for Saturday's game with the New Orleans Voodoo. Importantly, Lucasfilm has signed off on it, allowing the teams to use the licensed products and images for free.

It won't be the first time the Star Wars franchise has crossed over to the sports realm. Far from it.
