Penn State fans want to crowdfund coach Pat Chambers' fine
Penn State's embattled fan base has responded to the latest injustice leveled against the school with a show of solidarity.
Basketball coach Pat Chambers was fined $10,000 by the Big Ten for criticisms of officials he made after the team's 76-73 loss to Maryland on Sunday.
Onward State, Penn State's student-run, independent news site, praised Chambers for his candor, and in an acerbic statement criticizing the Big Ten, the site asked the student body to help cover it.
"As any good journalism organization should, we at Onward State always appreciate when coaches are honest during press conferences instead of the normal coach-speak...Besides, he’s right — this may actually be the worst call of the season. We don’t want to see a coach punished simply for speaking his mind."
"Please consider donating through Onward State to pay the fine issued by this totalitarian regime...Collectively, as Nittany Nation, we can neutralize this fine rendered simply for sticking up for his team."
"Pat Chambers spit some hot truth and is losing five figures because of it...Let’s show the Big Ten that we stand by our coach, and will fight their tyranny at all costs, both literal and figurative. Besides, hasn’t Penn State been issued enough fines in the recent past?"
The organizers have not contacted anyone at Penn State's athletic department, and have said that should Chambers not accept the donation, they will donate the entire amount to the school's chapter of Uplifting Athletes.
There is no word as of yet whether Chambers will accept the money, though he no doubt appreciates the gesture.
