Jonathan Papelbon thought a reporter called him Johnny Jonathan

Jonathan Paplebon may have gotten a new nickname on Wednesday night.

Jonathan Papelbon earned a save on Wednesday night against the Marlins to close out a 3–1 win, but he also earned a brand new nickname courtesy of a misunderstanding with the Nationals on-the-field reporter Dan Kolko.

The confusion caused Papelbon to laugh and tell the dugout that Kolko had called him Johnny Jonathan, and on first listen it is easy to see why he would think that.

In reality the interviewer first says, “Thank you very much Johnny,” to studio host Johnny Holiday before turning to address the Washington closer.

Since it is 2016, expect to see fans in Johnny Jonathan jerseys by this weekend.
