Joe DeLeone: Penix was "clearly out of rhythm"

Michael Penix Jr. struggled in the national championship against Michigan on Monday night.

Michael Penix Jr. and Washington could not finish the job and win the national championship against Michigan. On a recent episode of The Ruffino & Joe Show, the college football duo of Blake Ruffino and Joe DeLeone talked about the impact of Penix potentially being hobbled by injury during the most important game of the season.

"That significantly impacted the outcome of the game," argued DeLeone. "If Michael Penix isn't at 75 percent because his ankle is screwed up, I think that he delivers on a number of those throws that he missed on. He was clearly out of rhythm, and he clearly could not throw the ball the way that he was used to. He didn't look anything like the normal Michael Penix in terms of ball velocity we are used to seeing."

Penix Jr. had one of his worst performances as a college starting quarterback, throwing two interceptions and only one touchdown pass while also missing on several big plays that could have changed the outcome of the game.
