Matt Smith Praises Chargers “Intuitive and Collaborative” Plan for Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz

The Chargers will move forward with a "Batman and Robin" relationship between Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz.

The Los Angeles Chargers are entering a new era with new head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Jim Hortiz. During Harbaugh's introductory press conference, he referred to the pair's relationship as "Batman and Robin."

While it may have seemed like a throwaway line, Horiz doubled down on the metaphor. During the season, Harbaugh will be Batman, and Hortiz will assume that role in the offseason.

Matt "Money" Smith praised this idea on Bleav in Chargers, and how the "intuitive and collaborative" approach can lead to much success.

"But it's also you know, it's also intuitive. It's collaborative. You know, there's a lot of issues that I'm going through. It's you know, he detailed the Batman and the Robin that that Jim Harbaugh talked about and he said, yeah, like in season I'm Robin. When Jim comes to me and says we need this, I'm going to immediately march back into my office and just start pounding phones."

Pounding phones is a good way to look at it, as the Chargers could find themselves with a much different roster come the 2024 season. The team has a cap room issue that isn't ideal and plenty of star players to pay. Still, with the right GM, the team can make some great moves once the league year begins.

"He's like, 'We need a we need a middle linebacker. I'm going to go find it. I got to find it. I got to get a guy in the in the facility every single day.' Does this guy work? No. All right, Next guy. Does this guy work now? And that's the sort of thing that that creates and builds championship culture."

Championship culture is exactly what Harbaugh and Hortiz were both speaking about when they were formally introduced to the NFL. The Chargers have fallen below expectations in multiple years, and it's time they return to AFC relevancy.

Should Hortiz and Harbaugh find a winning combination that helps bring in the right kind of talent, the Chargers could be a scary playoff dark horse next season.
