Ross Tucker on Bears Keeping Justin Fields, “It’s 50/50 At Best”

Ross Tucker breaks down the Bears' situation in trading Justin Fields or drafting a QB with their #1 pick.

The Chicago Bears are in a tricky situation right now. They currently own the #1 pick and could see fit to draft a QB like USC's Caleb Williams or North Carolina's Drake Maye. Then again, they also still have Justin Fields.

Former offensive lineman and current broadcaster Ross Tucker spoke on Bleav Network's Bleav in Bears podcast about what the Bears should do considering this situation could become quite complicated.

"I actually, like if I talked to Ryan Poles, my advice would actually be to be a lot simpler with it. I don't think about the contracts, Don't think about the draft choice compensation. Do you have a quarterback that you think can be a top ten guy in Justin Fields and you're confident about that or do you think that Caleb Williams or Drake Man or whoever is a top ten, top five caliber guy."

Keeping the situation simpler is exactly what Bears GM Ryan Poles should be considering. There is no need to start panicking over the bigger and better deal. Right now, all that matters is if the front office believes Fields can lead them into the future, or if they roll the dice with Williams or Maye.

"You know, you think about Brock Purdy's in the Super Bowl in year two, you think about C.J. Stroud, who's had a fantastic rookie year. And that doesn't mean that Justin Fields can't get there to be a top-ten quarterback. Maybe he could. But the fact that it's year three in the books and we're still having the question, you have to you have to tell yourself it's probably going to it would be 50/50 at best."

Fields and the Bears have been married to one another for the past three years, and while he has shown improvement and poise—he may just need a change of scenery. The #1 pick does come with a wealth of options, but it's more than likely they use it to bring in Williams or Maye.
