Veteran Backup Emerges: Roethlisberger Impressed by Browning

Ben Roethlisberger recognizes the emergence of a 'veteran backup' in Jake Browning, highlighting his impressive performance.

Ben Roethlisberger was on the Bleav in Bengals podcast and talked about the surprising play of Jake Browning in relief of Joe Burrow. Browning is 3-1 since taking over as the starter for Cincinnati this year.

“I think he is playing like a veteran backup,” said Roethlisberger. “The way he is playing is what you expect from a good backup.”

Big Ben was a quarterback in the NFL for 18 seasons, so he knows what a quality backup should look like.

“I think he is playing some really good football right now, and I think it is what you would expect to see from a guy who had such a history in college. He played a lot in college and did some great stuff,” said Roethlisberger. “Just because he hasn’t done it in the leagues doesn’t mean he’s not a guy that couldn’t do it.”

The Bengals are three-point favorites over the Steelers this weekend, according to BetOnline.
