College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit reacts after sudden death of ESPN employee

The ESPN family is mourning the loss of employee Kyle Brown, who died suddenly while working at a college baseball game over the weekend, and long-time college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit was shocked and heartbroken by the loss.

"This is such devastating news that we received this weekend," Herbstreit said in reaction.

"I worked with Kyle for many years on our ABC Saturday Night Prime package. He was the epitome of professional and was as good of a teammate as you could hope for. He was our iso producer working hand in hand with our producer."

Herbstreit added: "He was gifted in this industry-caring-creative-passionate-just the total package. This was news you hear and you just can't believe it's true. He's a young man with a lovely wife and 4 young children.

"All our collective hearts are with Kyle's family.. thinking of you and remembering how fortunate we all were to know Kyle and to call him a colleague-friend and teammate. RIP Kyle."

A former pitcher for the Ohio State baseball team, Brown worked for ESPN over the last 16 years, someone the network called "a deeply admired member of our production team - and highly accomplished."

Brown was a two-time Emmy Award winner in sports with experience in baseball, college football, and working on the Monday Night Football program.

ESPN said Brown suffered a medical emergency while working at the NCAA Baseball Super Regional in North Carolina. He was 42 years old.
