Ohio State has extended the contract for head football coach Ryan Day.

Day and the school agreed to a two-year contract extension that pushes the coach's deal through the 2028 football season, and raises his annual salary up to $9.5 million.

That's a raise from the $7.5 million he was receiving before and comes on the heels of Michigan State coach Mel Tucker inking a $95 million contract last season.

Day has proved himself more during his short stay in the Big Ten.

Since being named Ohio State football coach on Dec. 4, 2018, Day has coached the Buckeyes to a 34-4 total record, including a 23-1 mark in Big Ten competition.

Day's teams have made the College Football Playoff twice and won two Big Ten championships in 2019 and 2020 that extended the Buckeyes' streak to four straight conference titles.

Ohio State lost to Clemson in a semifinal after the 2019 season, defeated Clemson in the 2020 CFP semis, and lost to Alabama in the 2020 national championship game.

Ohio State went 11-2 last season, losing to non-conference foe Oregon and rival Michigan, the latter for the first time in eight years, and went on to defeat Pac-12 champion Utah in the Rose Bowl.

OSU posted the No. 1 total offense in college football a year ago, and returns the core of that unit, including Heisman finalist quarterback CJ Stroud.
