Tuskegee sophomore wide receiver Reginald T. Summage was shot to death shortly after midnight on Friday, according to a report from AL.com.

Tuskegee police officers found Summage wounded at the scene after responding to a call at 11:50 p.m. before being pronounced dead at the scene. He was 20 years old.

Tuskegee police chief Jennifer Jordan told AL.com she believes the incident occurred when Summage was trying to stop a fight at a party off campus. What began as a fistfight escalated into gunfire, but that these details are yet to be confirmed.

Marquavius Lee Debro, 21, was arrested and charged with murder in Summage's death. Debro was taken into custody on Saturday and is being held in the Macon County Jail on a $150,000 bond at the time of the report.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Reginald's family and friends," Tuskegee University President Dr. Charlotte P. Morris said in a statement.

"Losing such a young and talented member of our Golden Tiger family to a senseless act of violence is always tough. We extend our deepest condolences and support to all who loved him at this incredibly difficult time."

Summage played high school football at Jefferson Davis High in Montgomery, Alabama, before enrolling at Tuskegee. He majored in construction science and made the honor roll for the 2021 academic year, but did not play football due to injury.
