USC football: Jordan Addison received better NIL offers from other schools, per report
When No. 1 college football transfer Jordan Addison announced he would transfer from Pitt to USC, the main speculation was that he moved for NIL reasons.
But a new report suggests that the wide receiver actually turned down larger and more lucrative NIL offers in order to play for the Trojans.
Addison's decision to attend USC was more to do with football than economic factors, including his relationship with Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams, according to ESPN.
The report claims, “Obviously the connection to Caleb Williams played a huge part in Addison's decision to even transfer, but as a source put it: ‘This was more about football than NIL. He could have gotten more money from schools besides USC.’”
Addison's decision to transfer from Pitt was met with reports that the school accused USC officials of tampering with their top receiver, culminating in an angry phone call from Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi to Trojans coach Lincoln Riley over the matter.
Addison is the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner as the most outstanding wide receiver in college football. He finished last season with 100 receptions for 1,583 yards and led the nation with 17 touchdown catches.
Addison's production, in tandem with Heisman finalist quarterback Kenny Pickett, was instrumental in Pittsburgh winning the ACC football championship.
College Football HQ ranks USC as the No. 1 transfer team of the 2022 offseason after the school signed nearly 20 players via the portal, including 5-star quarterback Caleb Williams and former Oregon lead back Travis Dye.
