Ole Miss football transfer takes shot at Florida coaches

Princely Umanmielen was one of the most high-profile players to enter the college football transfer portal this offseason, making headlines as he switched from Florida to SEC rival Ole Miss.

And judging by his recent comments, the new Rebels defensive lineman sounded only too happy to make a change of scenery, announcing that he's getting more detailed coaching and instruction from the assistants at Ole Miss than he ever got at Florida.

"I feel like here I'm getting coached harder for things like that," he told reporters, in particular of Ole Miss coaches' attention to his defending against the run.

"I feel like at Florida, the way I was coached, it was kind of like, it was almost as if they was just telling me to go out there and use my talent, if that makes sense."

Umanmielen noted that defensive line coach Randall Joyner and defensive analyst Lou Spanos have given him more to work with to develop at the position.

"They're really on me about the little things," he said.

"Attacking the run. Coach Lou really goes through the progressions of the drops and the routes that are being run when I have to go into coverage.

He added: "When I was at Florida, they would just tell me go drop to this area, and I would have to figure everything else out on my own. But here, they go real into depth. I feel like I'm actually getting developed here."

Umanmielen logged 98 stops and three forced fumbles during his Gators career and he had seven sacks a year ago, numbers he hopes will increase as he debuts for Ole Miss this season.
