Houston Astros Make Random History on Saturday, Do Something Not Done in More Than 120 Years in Win

The Houston Astros got a much-needed win on Saturday, beating the Texas Rangers, 9-2. In the win, the Astros accomplished a random piece of baseball history that hasn't happened in more than 120 years.

The Houston Astros broke out in a big way on Saturday afternoon, beating the Texas Rangers, 9-2, at Minute Maid Park.

Houston, who had been pummeled by the Royals and Rangers for three straight games, pounded out 14 hits and had five players register multi-hit games.

They also accomplished some random baseball history that hasn't happened in more than 120 years, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

the Astros are the 2nd team in MLB history to allow a 6+ run inning in at least 3 straight games and then score 6+ runs in an inning in their next game, joining:

The Astros scored seven runs in the seventh inning to fuel the victory. On the other side of the coin, Houston finally got a solid pitching performance as early season breakout star Ronel Blanco went 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on just five hits. He walked three and struck out five in the no decision, but he has an ERA of 0.86 at this point.

The Astros are missing several key starters right now including Justin Verlander, Framber Valdez, Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers. But with Verlander and Valdez expected to return soon, the pitching should improve for Houston fairly quickly.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon with Nathan Eovaldi pitching for Texas. The veteran right-hander is 1-0 with a 1.45 ERA. He'll be opposed by Cristian Javier of the Astros. He's 1-0 with a 1.10 ERA.

First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. ET from Minute Maid Park.
