Shohei Ohtani Not Currently Facing Discipline From Major League Baseball, Per Report

After Shohei Ohtani's longtime translator was fired on Wednesday over allegations of gambling and "massive theft," we learn that Ohtani himself is not currently facing discipline from the league.

Los Angeles Dodgers' superstar Shohei Ohtani is not currently facing discipline from Major League Baseball regarding the massive story from Wednesday in which his longtime translator was fired over a gambling investigation.

The update came from 'The Athletic:'

Ohtani is not currently facing discipline, according to an MLB official, nor is he believed to be under active investigation by the league.

This is a story that is sure to evolve as more questions get asked and answered about the nature of Ippei Mizhuhara's gambling, the payments made to cover the gambling debts and Ohtani's knowledge of the situation or lack thereof.

Regardless, it's a massive distraction for a team that has World Series aspirations this season and it's bad for the sport to have its best player entangled in this mess.

Despite the distractions, Ohtani played yet again for the Dodgers on Thursday morning, finishing out the two-game Seoul Series with the San Diego Padres.

The Dodgers lost the game, 15-11, as new pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was shelled for five runs in just one inning of work. Ohtani went 1-for-5 with an RBI in the defeat.

The most unique player we've seen in baseball in years, Ohtani is a two-time MVP already in his career. His success and global marketability netted him the biggest contract in North American sports this offseason (10 years, $700 million), but now there are certainly more layers of this story to unpack.

The Dodgers return back to the United States to finish out spring training before traditional Opening Day on March 28.
