The Kansas City Royals fell to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night, 6-4, losing in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With the loss, Kansas City is now 1-3 on the season while the win moved the Orioles to 3-1.

Despite the loss, Royals' star Bobby Witt Jr. continued his torrid start to the year, going 2-for-5 with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. His one RBI came via his second home run of the year. The steal was his first.

Through the four games of the season, Witt Jr. has made some impressive baseball history. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com on social media:

Bobby Witt Jr’s 6 extra-base hits are tied for the most by a player age 23 or younger in his team’s 1st 4 games of a season since at least 1901, with:

2016 Trevor Story
2009 Evan Longoria
1973 Cesar Cedeno
1931 Joe Vosmik

Already one of the best players in baseball, Witt Jr. looks like a perennial All-Star and a possible MVP winner. He's hitting .500 on the young season and is coming off a year in which he hit .276 with 30 homers, 96 RBI and 49 stolen bases.

Though the Royals are out to a tough start, this is a season of great optimism for them. They went out this offseason and made several noteable moves, including extending Witt Jr. They also signed Adam Frazier, Hunter Renfroe, Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha.

The Royals and Orioles will play again on Tuesday night. First pitch from Camden Yards is set for 6:35 p.m. ET.
