Salvador Perez Joins Awesome History By Blasting 250th Career HR on Saturday

Salvador Perez hit the 250th home run of his career on Saturday afternoon, all with the Kansas City Royals. By hitting the blast, he joined some awesome history as a power-hitting catcher.

Kansas City Royals' catcher Salvador Perez hit the 250th home run of his career on Saturday afternoon as the Royals took on the New York Mets.

With the home run, he joined an extremely rare list of catchers in baseball history.

Per @JayHayKid of the "Baseball is Dead" podcast:

Salvador Perez's HR was the 250th of his career, making him the 12th player in MLB history who played at least 50% of games at catcher to reach 250 and the first since Brian McCann did so in 2017.

What is even better is that every single home run of his career has come in a Royals' uniform. While Perez obviously still has time left to play, he's making a clear case for a Royals' Hall of Fame berth and a number retirement. Furthermore, he is making a case for selection into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

The pre-eminent catcher of the last several years, Perez is in the 13th year of his career. He is an eight-time All-Star, a five-time Gold Glover, a four-time Silver Slugger and a World Champion (2015). Furthermore, he is a World Series MVP.

The Royals are looking to make a return trip to the playoffs this season and spent more than $100 million in free agency to make it happen. Armed with one of the best players in baseball in Bobby Witt Jr., and with the veteran leadership of Perez, they look like they may be primed to do that in a mediocre American League Central.
