Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber joined some elite club in baseball history on Sunday.

With two home runs against the Washington Nationals, Schwarber recorded his fifth career multi-home run game against the Nationals. That's tied for second on the most "multi-home run games vs. one team through 40 games list."

It's kind of obscure, we know, but we're fans of history here.

Gleyber Torres of the Yankees has six career multi-home run games vs. the Baltimore Orioles through 40 games while Schwarber is tied with:

Joe Dimaggio, who had five multi-home run games against St. Louis (American League), Todd Helton vs. the Montreal Expos, and Schwarber vs. the New York Mets, again all through 40 games.

The power has certainly been there this year for Schwarber, who now has 15 homers on the season. While the power has been there, the average has not. He's hitting just .172. We recently wrote about the history that Schwarber created in May with regards to "big power, low average."

He was signed to a four-year, $79 million contract before the 2022 season and helped the Phillies reach the World Series last year, but clearly has struggled to gain traction this season.

Schwarber made his major league debut in 2015 with the Cubs and has played for the Cubs, the Nationals, Boston Red Sox and the Phillies. He helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series, is a two-time All-Star selection, and led the league in home runs a year ago with 46.

The Phillies beat the Nationals, 11-3, and are now 27-32 on the season.
