San Francisco Giants' Infielder Makes Surprising Team History with Powerful Effort on Saturday

The San Francisco Giants throttled the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, 11-2. The Giants got a dominant start on the mound from righty Logan Webb and also got a history-making set of homers from infielder Thairo Estrada.

The San Francisco Giants put up 11 runs in a resounding victory on Saturday afternoon over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Giants won the game 11-2 and are now 6-9 on the season while the Rays fell to 8-7.

In the win, San Francisco got another gem from Logan Webb. Last year's runner-up for the Cy Young Award went 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on six hits. He walked one and struck out four and is now 1-1 on the year.

Furthermore, offensively, the Giants hit four doubles and five homers in the 13-hit effort. Infielder Thairo Estrada hit two homers in the win, putting him in a small group in team history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

most multi-HR games as second baseman, Giants history:

Jeff Kent: 11
Ray Durham: 4
Robby Thompson: 4
Thairo Estrada: 3
Daryl Spencer: 3

Considering Estrada only has 42 home runs in now six Major League seasons, it's surprising to see him on such a list, but here we are. He went 3-for-4 in the win and is now hitting .224 for the season. Lifetime, hes' a .260 hitter since debuting in 2019. HIs career-high in home runs is 14, something he did in both 2022 and 2023.

The Giants and Rays will play again on Sunday afternoon with first pitch from Tropicana Field coming at 1:40 p.m. ET. Former Rays pitcher Blake Snell gets the ball for San Francisco in his second start. He's 0-1. Shawn Armstrong will be the opener for Tampa Bay. He's 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA.
