New York Yankees' Marcus Stroman Does Something Only Done One Other Time in Last 50 Years of Team History

The New York Yankees lost on Friday afternoon in their home opener, but starting pitcher Marcus Stroman joined a very exclusive group in team history with another solid performance.

The New York Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday afternoon in the home opener at Yankee Stadium despite a solid performance from new pitcher Marcus Stroman.

The righty, who signed with New York this offseason, went six innings, allowing no runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out six. Unfortunately, the Yankees' bullpen allowed three runs over the next three innings and the Yanks lost 3-0. They are now 6-2 on the young season. Toronto is 4-4.

With a second consecutive solid performance, Stroman joined a select group in team history over the last 50 years.

Per Yankees' Insider Katie Sharp on social media:

Yankees in the Last 50 Years with 0 ER and 12+ IP in their first 2 games of the season:

2024 Marcus Stroman
1999 Ramiro Mendoza

Stroman also had a great start against the Houston Astros the first time out, so he's done this against two well-regarded lineups. He'll continue to be counted on for this rotation given the major injury to Gerrit Cole and the question mark that is Carlos Rodon.

The 32-year-old Stroman is in his 10th year in the big leagues with the Blue Jays, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs and Yankees. He was part of multiple Blue Jays teams that got to the ALCS and is a two-time All-Star.

Lifetime, he's 78-76 on the year with a 3.62 ERA.He won a Gold Glove in 2017 and finished eighth in the American League Cy Young voting that season.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will play again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. ET.
