Boston Red Sox relievers were subject to poor treatment from Baltimore Orioles fans on Tuesday night in Baltimore, per reports. We covered that story here.

Now on Wednesday, Sox reliever Richard Bleier has confirmed that report to the Boston Globe. Julian McWilliams of the Globe tweets this:

"Richard Bleier told the Globe that Orioles fans spat and threw beer on members of the Red Sox inside the visitors' bullpen last night. "I played here and that's not the fan base I remember," said Bleier. The incident was first reported by @Bradfo."

From the article:

"Bleier, who played for the Orioles from 2017-20, said the two incidents involved separate individuals, both of whom ran off. When asked if security did anything to stop the individuals, Bleier said there wasn’t much they could have done. The bullpen at Camden Yards is low, so fans are right on top of players.

“It’s unfortunate, for sure,” Bleier said. “Hopefully they’re doing things that prevent this from happening again. It’s definitely not acceptable.

“I’ve been in some rough areas in terms of bullpens where we’re, like, right in the middle of it, and I’ve never had that happen before.”

I think I speak for most people on this: If this is how you behave at games, then don't go to games. It's one thing to root for your team and cheer for your team and to dislike the opponent, but when you do this, you are crossing a line.

We've heard several incidents of fan misconduct at games over recent years in all sports, and it needs to stop. I was actually at an NFL game where fans threw beer on a player and the player entered the stands.

No one needs those kind of interactions. It's completely unnecessary.
