Boston Red Sox Pitchers Complain About Baltimore Orioles' Fan Conduct
The Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles, 8-6, on Tuesday night to move to 13-12 on the season.
The victory also avenged the Sox Game 1 loss of the series and evened the series at 1-1 heading into Wednesday's rubber match.
But after the game, Red Sox relief pitchers had some complaints for how they were treated in the bullpen area. Rob Bradford of WEEI and the "Baseball Isn't Boring" podcast had more.
"Many of the Red Sox relievers were not happy with security out near the visitors' bullpen tonight. A few pitchers were sprayed by beer, with one Red Sox being spat on. More than a few called it the worst they had ever seen."
Look, I think I speak for most people on this: If this is how you behave at games, then don't go to games. It's one thing to root for your team and cheer for your team and to dislike the opponent, but when you do this, you are crossing a line.
We've heard several incidents of fan misconduct at games over recent years in all sports, and it needs to stop. I was actually at an NFL game where fans threw beer on a player and the player entered the stands.
No one needs those kind of interactions. It's completely unnecessary.
As for the game itself, Jarren Duran hit his first career grand slam for the Red Sox. Cedric Mullins hit one for the Orioles.
The two teams play Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. ET.
