Chicago Cubs' Rookie Does Something Never Done Before in Franchise History with Home Run on Sunday

Chicago Cubs' rookie Michael Busch once again homered on Sunday, putting himself firmly atop the record books in team history.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Seattle Mariners in a wild one, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park. The Cubs pitchers escaped possible disaster in both the seventh and eighth innings, and then ended the game by picking off Julio Rodriguez at first base.

With the win, the Cubs are now 9-6 on the season. They are seeking a return trip to the playoffs under first-year manager Craig Counsell.

Part of the reason that the Cubs were able to win was because of yet another home run from rookie Michael Busch. Busch, who was acquired in an offseason trade from the Los Angeles Dodgers, hit a homer in his fourth consecutive game, which set a Cubs record.

Busch has always been seen as a good hitter but the Dodgers just didn't have a place for him. He's getting the opportunity with the Cubs and is making the most of it, hitting .327 with a 1.087 OPS thus far.

The Cubs will stay out West on Monday for a series with the defending National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

First pitch on Monday is set for 9:40 p.m. ET at Chase Field as the Cubs send Ben Brown to the mound. He's 0-0 with a 6.10 ERA. He'll be opposed on the other side by right-hander Merrill Kelly, who is 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA for Arizona.

It will be Jackie Robinson Day across baseball and all players will be wearing No. 42.
