Chicago White Sox' Lefty Ties Former Team Ace in History Despite Another Loss

The Chicago White Sox lost to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, but left-hander Garret Crochet continued to dominate in the early going, tying former team ace Chris Sale in team history with regards to strikeout totals.

The Chicago White Sox lost to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon, 5-3, at Kauffman Stadium.

The loss drops the White Sox to 1-8 on the season while the win moves the Royals to 6-4 on the year.

After finishing fourth in the American League Central last season, the White Sox appear set for an even rougher season in 2024, but despite that, left-hander Garrett Crochet appears like a major bright spot.

After making the move to the starting rotation this season for the first time, Crochet has already tied former ace Chris Sale in team history through his first three starts.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Garrett Crochet’s 21 strikeouts so far this season are tied with Chris Sale for the most in a pitcher’s 1st 3 career starts in White Sox franchise history

Crochet went five innings in Sunday's loss, surrendering two earned runs on three hits. He walked none and struck out five. His ERA through the first three starts of the season is at an even 2.00.

The 24-year-old lefty with the triple-digit fastball is 1-1 this season and 4-8 for his career. Lifetime, he owns a 2.57 ERA.

Tying Sale in team history is no small feat as he is one of the best pitchers the organization has developed in the 2000s.

In seven years with the White Sox, Sale made five All-Star Games and had five Top-10 Cy Young finishes. He currently plays with the Atlanta Braves.

The White Sox will play the Cleveland Guardians on Monday afternoon at 5:10 p.m. ET.
