Two of Baseball's Youngest Players Just Made Recent Baseball History on Monday Night

Playing against each other on Monday night, Jackson Chourio of the Milwaukee Brewers and Jackson Merrill of the San Diego Padres each delivered big games, making some recent baseball history in the process.

The San Diego Padres beat the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night, 7-3, in Milwaukee.

The win moves the Padres to 10-9 on the season while the loss dropped the Brewers to a still-impressive 10-5.

What else was impressive was the display of young talent in this matchup. Twenty-year-old Jackson Chourio went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI for Milwaukee, while 20-year-old Jackson Merrill went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base for San Diego.

Two of baseball's youngest players, they each made the Opening Day roster this season. That alone is an accomplishment, let alone the fact that Merrill is now hitting .356 and Chourio is hitting .259 while spending lots of time in the leadoff spot.

The duo also joined a rare group in recent baseball history on Monday night, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Jackson Chourio and Jackson Merrill are the 3rd pair of 20-year-olds (or younger) each with multiple hits in the same game in the last 25 seasons, joining:

4/28/19 Juan Soto (WSH) + Fernando Tatis Jr (SD)
7/22/18 Juan Soto (WSH) + Ronald Acuña Jr (ATL)

It is rare to have two players of this age playing in the same game, but given the new CBA incentives to promote young prospects, it could become more of a reality in the future.

The two teams will play again on Tuesday night with first pitch coming at 7:40 p.m. ET.

Righty Dylan Cease (1-1, 2.16 ERA) gets the ball for the visitors while Wade Miley pitches for the Brewers (0-0, 2.25 ERA).
