Australia faces off with Russia at UFC Sydney!

A new bout has been added to UFC Sydney. No. 6 ranked Tai Tuivasa is set to face No. 7 Alexander Volkov on September 10 at UFC 293. The UFC announced the matchup from their Australian Twitter page on July 25.

It's do-or-die for Tuivasa, who is currently on a skid of two defeats to Ciryl Gane and Sergei Pavlovich. Volkov on the other hand has recovered from a rocky loss in 2022 by stringing together two straight finishes over Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Romanov, each in the first three minutes of the fight.

Tuivasa becomes the eighth fighter of Kiwi or Aussie descent officially joining the UFC 293 roster. While the main event featuring Israel Adesanya versus Dricus Du Plessis is yet to be confirmed, there are indications that a matchup between Adesanya and Sean Strickland could also materialize.

This heavyweight bout does have some title implications. A victory for Tuivasa would spring him back into a fight with a top-five opponent. For Volkov, it would likely secure him a No.6 ranking and a shot at the top-five; it would also bolster his title claim with an impressive four-fight win streak.

Blink and you'll miss it! Tuivasa and Volkov have a combined 40 finishes and 37 knockouts, this isn't one to be missed.
