Major WWE Champion Reportedly Suffers Injury on SmackDown Before WrestleMania 40

One WWE champion is reportedly hurt.

A current champion within WWE has reportedly suffered an injury.

The wrestling industry hasn't been kind to performers in terms of injury rate lately. Megastars such as CM Punk have been forced to sit on the sidelines, and hopefully that will not be the case with one recently injured titleholder.

WWE is hoping that the injury isn't serious.

PWInsider reports that one-half of the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Asuka injured her knee this past Friday on SmackDown. The Damage CTRL member was at ringside for Bayley vs. Dakota Kai, but was active in the ring during the DQ finish. Asuka was seen limping in the ring.

The report notes that WWE took Asuka off recent live events as a precaution. It's been said that tests have been run to determine whether or not the Japanese legend's injury is short-term, or if she's facing a long recovery.

Asuka has been heavily involved in a key storyline going into WrestleMania this year. "The Empress of Tomorrow" and the rest of Damage CTRL turned on Bayley and have been trying to stop her from winning IYO SKY's WWE Women's Championship at "The Showcase of the Immortals." WWE is obviously hoping that Asuka will be available for the big payoff at WrestleMania 40, which will be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.

MMA Knockout wishes Asuka a speedy recovery.
