USADA has announced the two-year sanction (suspension) of UFC heavyweight fighter Braxton Smith, after Smith popped for three instances of "exogenous administration of testosterone and/or its precursors." The sanction was first announced on June 17 in a blog post by USADA, Smith has accepted the sanction, and no fights will be overruled as a result.

When USADA talks about "exogenous administration ... and/or its precursors," they mean introducing testosterone or its precursors from an external source, such as medications or supplements.

Testosterone plays a role in various functions of the body, such as muscle growth and bone density, and as such, "exogenous administration" of testosterone is typically banned in professional athletics, especially combat sports.

"Smith’s two-year period of ineligibility began on April 19, 2023, the date his first positive sample was collected. Because Smith lost his bout on May 6, 2023, there are no result to be disqualified. Smith’s positive tests also fall under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Athletic Commission, which is resolving the case in accordance with its rules." (via USADA)

Smith is 0-1 in the UFC, and 5-2 in his professional MMA career. The American fighter caught the attention of fans by being a 5'11, 262 lbs heavyweight, which made his physique and strength quite remarkable. Now in hindsight, it wasn't all natural.
