UFC News: Former Russian World UFC Champion Out Due To Major Injury

This former UFC titleholder won't be seen in action for a while.

One former UFC champion will be going under the knife following a much-needed victory.

Fighters rarely walk out of the Octagon completely unscathed. Even in victory, an athlete may still require medical attention. In this case, the victorious former champion has a tough road to recovery ahead.

Former UFC bantamweight titleholder Petr Yan will be sidelined for quite some time.

Taking to his X account, "No Mercy" revealed he suffered a big ACL injury and other issues during his UFC 299 victory over Song Yadong in Miami.

"So MRI confirmed acl rupture, meniscus tear and groin injury," Yan wrote. "Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. Nothing will break me, I’m determined to come back stronger than ever in no time."

Yan entered his showdown against Yadong on a three-fight losing streak. He went from being the most feared 135-pounder to facing a fourth loss in a row. Yan was able to get back to his winning ways, scoring a unanimous decision victory inside the Kaseya Center.

Unfortunately, Yan will have to sit on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. When he does eventually make his return, Yan will hope to capitalize off nabbing his first win since October 2021. He currently holds the number four spot on the official UFC bantamweight rankings.

MMA Knockout wishes Petr Yan a quick and speedy recovery.
