BREAKING: NBA Champion Retires From Basketball

Marc Gasol, who played for the Grizzlies, Raptors and Lakers, has retired from professional basketball.

Marc Gasol last played in the NBA during the 2020-21 season when he appeared in 52 games for the Los Angeles Lakers.   

That year, he averaged 5.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per contest while shooting 45.4% from the field and 41.0% from the three-point range. 

Despite being out of the NBA, the 39-year-old still played overseas during the 2022-23 season. 

However, he has now retired from professional basketball.

Via Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium: "After 20 professional seasons and 13 in NBA, Marc Gasol has retired from basketball. He played for Grizzlies, Raptors and Lakers, winning the 2019 NBA title in Toronto, making three All-Star teams and one All-NBA team. Memphis plans to retire his No. 33 jersey."

Gasol also made a post to Instagram. 

The three-time NBA All-Star was initially the 48th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, and he played 13 seasons in the league for the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors.    

His career averages are 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per contest while shooting 48.1% from the field and 36.0% from the three-point range in 891 regular season games.  

In addition, Gasol appeared in 99 playoff games and helped the Raptors win the 2019 NBA Championship over Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors.   

Gasol is the younger brother of Pau, who had a Hall of Fame career playing 18 seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks.
