Johnson Wins Again - This Makes Three

Wenda Johnson, 4-time NFR qualifier, takes a demanding lead to start off the San Angelo Rodeo, Monday, April 1. The win is pretty familiar to Johnson, as she has claimed the win three times now.

Wenda Johnson, a fan favorite as a person and horsewoman, continues her pursuit of the 2024 National Finals Rodeo. In San Angelo, Texas, Johnson won the slack by 0.3 seconds on Monday, April 1, a big win itself and even more so when there are 240 other competitors.

Her partner was none other than Steal Money, known as "Mo." She plans to stay on Mo for her second run in the 10th performance on Thursday, April 18. The top 12 in the average on two runs advance to the finals on April 19. The fastest total on three runs takes the title at the San Angelo Rodeo.

Johnson has seen success numerous times at the San Angelo Rodeo aboard three different horses, all sired by First Moonflash. She has now won the slack three times and qualified for the finals four times - winning the title once and being reserve twice. San Angelo is one of Johnson's favorite rodeos as she says, "I like striving towards clean, fast, consistent runs." It's no wonder that this rodeo is Wenda's style.

San Angelo provides the opportunity to all permit and card holders to enter, while also not limiting the number of contestants. This leads to a large number of competitors making their way to San Angelo, all vying for the top 120 spots that advance to the rodeo performances. The 120 competitors that advance are drawn into 10 performances with 12 in each performance. They are placed in these performances slowest to fastest and then a random draw is made within each performance.

Rodeo performance action will begin on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 P.M. CST at Foster Communications Colliseum in San Angelo, Texas.
