The barrel racing industry has been revolutionized by the introduction of incentives, which have transformed the world of futurities and derbies. With large payouts and added money, there are now millions of dollars up for grabs in this incredible sport. One of these incentives is the Royal Crown, which recently kicked off round one of their Futurity and Derby on Feb. 15 in Buckeye, Ariz. Only horses sired by one of the enrolled stallions from an exclusive list are eligible to compete.

The $75,000 added Futurity for horses 5 years old and under drew 100 talented horses to the Buckeye Equestrian Center arena to battle it out.

Tricia Aldridge and her 2020 palomino stallion, Adios Pantalones, by Tres Seis out of French Bar Belle (Frenchmans Guy) bred by Leslie Bailey, have been on fire lately. Aldridge has been steadily chipping away at her goal of winning $300,000 on Adios this year. She continued her winning streak by taking round one with a 17.11-second run. As a result, she earned $5,805 in rider pay, $729 in stallion pay and $486 in breeder pay.

In the Derby, for horses 8 years old and younger, there were 131 horses all vying for a piece of the $50,000 added money.

Brandon Cullins and MJ Segers Fast Lane, a 2017 mare by The Goodbye Lane out of SKS Running Faucet (Diamond Faucet) owned by Grant and Reyel Little and bred by Mark and Linda Jarvis, ran the only sub-17 second run of the competition. This team wasn't slowing down coming off their $15,000 American Contender Tournament Finals win in Abilene, Texas, on Feb. 10. The duo laid down a 16.997-second run to win round one of the Derby and earned $4,879 in rider pay, $675 in stallion pay and $450 in breeder pay.

The action continues on Saturday, Feb. 17.
