Thunder Rosa Opens A New Chapter In Her Career With AEW & CMLL (Exclusive)

In 2026, Thunder Rosa made her in-ring return to All Elite Wrestling after six months on the shelf. Quickly upon her comeback, Rosa found herself in contention for the AEW Women's World Championship in a hard fought bout against Thekla on the March 4th edition of AEW Dynamite.
After coming up short in her bid to reclaim the title she once held proudly, Rosa has since been announced to represent All Elite Wrestling on the huge 83rd Anniversary of Arena Coliseo event for CMLL on April 4th.
Being a native of Tijuana, Mexico, this is a huge opportunity for Rosa, who made her CMLL debut just last year during AEW and ROH's co-promotional shows with the Mexican promotion at Arena Mexico.

As she prepares for this historic event, Rosa understands the honor it is to be part of a landmark show for the oldest promotion in the world in her home country.
"Well it’s an honor," Thunder Rosa told The Takedown On SI. "It just shows you that the company, CMLL and also AEW, respect the work that I’ve done for all these years, especially being in AEW for six years now. And everything works in such mysterious ways that ever since they started working with CMLL, I’ve been asking, ‘when am I gonna go, when am I gonna go?’"
"And now the time, it’s here. Last year was the first one, now this year is different. So I feel like the stakes are different now for this time, my second time around in Coliseo. And I’m very excited."
On the April 4th event from Arena Coliseo, "La Mera Mera" will team with La Jarochita and Garra Negra to face Zeuxis, Keyra and Sanely in trios action.
Rosa is proud to represent Tijuana as well as to be seen as an American by the fans of CMLL, clearly understanding the importance of representation wherever she appears.

“I think it’s important to represent those that come from different places, especially me being binational," Rosa explained. "And I represent Tijuana everywhere, everywhere I go with the clothes that I wear, the face paint I wear, everything, but this is different right because people see you as American too."
"So I am coming to Mexico to represent what a successful Mexican is and how to be proud of being from where you came from and never denying where you came from."
It took the former AEW Women's World Champion some time to fully embrace every part of herself and what she represents to the fans who watch her in the ring. Now, she realizes her role with this upcoming appearance back in CMLL.
"I think it took me a couple of years to really embrace that, but now it’s fully embraced and now I’m here to like to emerge myself in Lucha Libre. And I know this sounds kinda funny, but it’s like the return of the prodigal daughter (laughs)."
Thunder Rosa says she would be honored to be a dual contracted star with AEW & CMLL

Over the past year, AEW has officially signed several stars from the CMLL roster to dual contracts, such as Hechicero, Mascara Dorada, Persephone and Mistico. These names have put a bigger spotlight on CMLL in the United States and played a role in this renaissance of the Mexican promotion.
Recently, Claudio Castagnoli became the first AEW star to sign a dual contract with CMLL after the success of his CMLL World Heavyweight Championship reign.
Rosa expressed her desire to join Castagnoli as the next AEW talent to sign a similar deal to work with both Tony Khan's promotion and CMLL, wanting to represent both companies and knowing how much it would mean to her career.
"Really you gonna ask me that question? Of course I’m interested in something like that," Rosa exclaimed. "It’s a big deal, it is such a big deal and it’s such an honor when they recognize you to be somebody to be part of their organization. Absolutely, it would be an honor."
"That’s like one thing that I always, when I started wrestling, I always wanted to do is wrestle in Arena Mexico, to be part of some of the trainings in Arena Mexico, which I will survive when I do them. I will survive them all (laughs). It’s like pushing myself to the limit and it’s like one of those things that I’m really enjoying the process because it’s like pushing yourself in a different way."
Over the past six years, Rosa has etched her name as one of the cornerstones of the AEW women's division and feels like this new opportunity would offer the chance to adapt to a new style outside of working on television every week.
Competing in front of the fans in Mexico, Rosa has the chance to work in live Lucha Libre and wrestle against the best that CMLL has to offer.
"You get so used to working a certain different style, especially working for TV and now you’re working live Lucha Libre with women that they don’t mess around and some of the best of the best," Rosa said. "So it’s gonna be very, very, a great learning experience, I always take everything as a learning experience."
Thinking about the best that CMLL has to offer, Persephone is one of those names that stands at the forefront. The new CMLL Women's World Champion is no stranger to Thunder Rosa.

When she was first making a name for herself in wrestling, Persephone earned her first opportunity to compete in the United States with Rosa's independent promotion, Mission Pro Wrestling. "La Diosa de la Muerte" recently stated in our exclusive interview with her that she would love to lock horns with the former AEW Women's World Champion.
Rosa shared in Persephone's excitement for a future bout against one another and expressed her respect for the current CMLL Women's World Champion.
"I’m just excited, I’m just excited for her present and for her future," Rosa said. "That woman has worked her ass off and from many, many women that I’ve seen that came through Mission Pro, she was one of the ones who worked from the ground up to have the opportunities that she has in Mexico and in the United States."
"And she hasn’t taken shortcuts, she keeps growing, she keeps learning and the one thing I love about her, she stays humble and she’s super professional. Something that I think is important in professional wrestling is to be professional and she’s one of those and I have so much respect for her."
With their history together and mutual journeys in the world of wrestling, Rosa knows that her and Persephone could deliver something truly special inside the squared circle together.
"And when the time comes for us to do this, I think it’s gonna be a banger because she’s mouthy, I’m mouthy, We have really good energy, we’re both from the border. She’s from El Paso, I’m from Tijuana, you know, so we both know what’s up."
"It’s like, like I was saying earlier like, if you were born in a border town, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. And as you can see, she was born in El Paso, she made it. I was born in Tijuana, I made it, so I know we can really, really do something amazing for everyone."
This opportunity to return to CMLL has provided Rosa with a new chapter that she is ready to open not only in her pro wrestling career, but also in her life moving forward.
Looking to inspire other wrestlers as well as women watching all over the world, "La Mera Mera" wants to motivate females to push their limits in whatever they choose to do.
"I think the most important part more than the wrestling, championships and everything is that continue to motivate your daughters, cousins, sisters, wives, mothers to reach their dreams and to really like push themselves to be who they want to be because that to me is so important to continue to do things for such a long time," Rosa stated.
"This opportunity with CMLL is opening a new chapter in my career, a new chapter in my life where I feel more confident, I feel more, that no matter what happens I’m gonna try my best and I’m gonna leave everything inside and outside the ring. So keep empowering those girls because they are the future, they are the present and the future."
Thunder Rosa will return to CMLL for the 83rd Anniversary of Arena Coliseo this Saturday, April 4th. Fans can watch the show live by becoming a top tier, "Fan Leyenda" member on the CMLL YouTube channel.
