Who is Randy Orton on the phone with?

There's another WWE mystery in the works ahead of WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, as Randy Orton has been talking to someone in recent weeks on Raw and SmackDown.

Orton, who won the 2026 Men's Elimination Chamber Match, finally snapped on former friend Cody Rhodes on the March 13 edition of SmackDown, setting up a huge match for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania.

With "The Viper" unleashed, there are several interesting options as to who could be advising him on the road to the biggest show of the year.

Here are some options for who Orton has been talking to.

Someone In the McMahon family

Technically, we're already cheating by grouping several members of the same family into one option, but Stephanie McMahon's surprise appearance on this week's Raw at Madison Square Garden hints at more McMahon involvement.

Stephanie took aim at Rhodes by stating that he couldn't beat this version of Orton, which prompted a heated back-and-forth exchange that included veiled references to Dusty Rhodes and Vince McMahon.

Is Orton talking to Stephanie? It's possible but unlikely. Is Orton talking to Vince? Absolutely not. But there is someone between those two who would be a logical choice.

Paul "Triple H" Leveque has lots of history with Orton, and there is a story that connects him to both his former Evolution stablemate and Rhodes.

The issue with this theory is why would Orton need to talk to Triple H on the phone when they're in the same building for every WWE show?

Kevin Owens

Owens has been out of action since March 2025 due to a neck injury that required surgery last July. There is currently no timetable for his return to the ring, but that doesn't mean that he can't play a pivotal role in a rivalry that features two people he was closely connected to prior to his hiatus.

We can't forget that Owens was scheduled to face Orton at WrestleMania 41 before being sidelined, and he had just come off a brutal Ladder Match against Rhodes at the Royal Rumble.

Owens snapped at both men because he was trying to convince everyone that Rhodes was selfish and hypocritical.

Perhaps a conversation with Owens swayed Orton to realize that Kevin was indeed right?

Ric Flair

Orton has hinted that wrestling has more than one royal family, which is a subtle jab at the trademark line in Rhodes' entrance theme.

Well, "The Nature Boy" would meet that criteria since he and "The Queen" Charlotte Flair have made plenty of history throughout their WWE careers.

With the personal nature of this rivalry, Flair advising his former protege ahead of one of the biggest matches of his career would make sense, especially if he's invested in Orton's chase for a 15th World title.

John Cena eclipsed Flair's record by defeating Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to win No. 17, so that bitterness could drive Flair to bring out the best in Orton. Tie in the fact that few knew Dusty Rhodes better than Flair, and there is a lot of fuel for a face-to-face showdown between the 16-time World champ and his former rival's son.

Bob Orton Jr.

The most straightforward choice for Orton's mystery phone calls is his own father.

With Orton confirming that he'll see the person at SmackDown on Friday, "Cowboy" Bob Orton is the top candidate since the show will take place at the Enterprise Center in their hometown of St. Louis.

By going this route, WWE can still tie in the family elements between Orton and Rhodes and even take it up a notch with an obvious visual that one father is still standing, while the other's is not.

WWE has set the bar high with its mystery teases, so this option could be a letdown to some who are expecting a bigger name. But from a story standpoint, this reveal could achieve quite a bit.

Other potential options

The Rock

  • The Rock - There's the "family" tie-in and his history with Rhodes.
  • Danhausen - Just kidding. But wouldn't you want your opponent cursed before a WrestleMania match?
  • No One - Is Orton using a phone to listen to the voices in his head?
