Fort Payne QB Dax Varnadore voted SB Live Alabama Athlete of the Week (Aug. 28

Congratulations to Fort Payne quarterback Dax Varnadore for winning the fan vote for SBLive Alabama Athlete of the Week for Aug. 28 - Sept. 3!

Varnadore completed 16 of his 26 pass attempts for 338 yards and four touchdowns to lead Fort Payne over Etowah, 54-26.

Varnadore received 93.9 percent of the votes from fans across Alabama, beating out Athens’ quarterback Brogan Goss (5.4 percent).

Here’s a look at the other nominees in last week’s poll:

D.J. Butler, QB, Davidson

Racked up 265 total yards, rushed for four touchdowns and passed for another in the Warriors’ wild 59-46 win over Hillcrest-Evergreen.

Ken Cherry, RB, Madison Academy

Rushed for 231 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries and brought in one touchdown reception in a 49-20 win over Randolph.

Brogan Goss, QB, Athens

Passed for 259 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-28 win over Bob Jones.

Keith Green, LB, Hueytown

Was credited with eight tackles, including two for a loss, and intercepted a pass in the Golden Gophers’ 17-3 win over Clay-Chalkville.

Santae McWilliams, RB, Saraland

Rushed for 99 yards on nine carries with four touchdowns in a 54-6 win over Murphy.

Emerson Russell, RB, Chelsea

Rushed for 295 yards and four touchdowns on just 22 carries in the Hornets’ 38-24 win over Calera.
