Another week, another set of Oklahoma high school basketball games postponed and canceled due to the threat of inclement weather.
With many school districts across the state ordering students to stay off the roads and off campus this week, there weren’t too many games played Monday or Tuesday. And the thought of games being played as scheduled later this week seems iffy at best right now.
But there were enough results from the previous Thursday and Friday to shake up the SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 boys rankings at least a little bit, though the same 25 teams remained in the rankings.
Note: Rankings and records are from games through Jan. 31.
1. Broken Arrow (16-0); last week (1)
The Tigers stayed unbeaten by beating Bixby and Sand Springs. They have some tough games against Sapulpa and Tulsa Booker T. Washington in the coming week.
2. Putnam City North (16-1); last week (2)
The Panthers are getting ever so closer to that No. 1 spot as they beat Choctaw, 85-45.
3. Dale (21-0); last week (3)
The Pirates beat Oklahoma Christian Academy by 26 and have a big game at Vanoss on Tuesday.
4. Midwest City Carl Albert (14-3); last week (4)
The Titans beat Piedmont and Guthrie, and have some more winnable games coming up.
5. Westmoore (15-2); last week (5)
The Jaguars stay at 5, but are looking more impressive by the week.
6. Edmond North (14-2); last week (7)
Edmond North got a 20-point win against Southmoore to move up one spot. When the Huskies are on their game, they have to be considered on a short list of 6A title contenders.
7. Tulsa Memorial (14-3); last week (8)
The Chargers avenged an earlier defeat by beating Lawton, 72-70, on Saturday in a gutsy performance. Excellence is the standard at Memorial, and this team is starting to look like a contender.
8. Del City (10-5); last week (9)
The Eagles beat local rival Midwest City by six, but had a game against Shawnee postponed. Still, they have some big games ahead against Douglass and Piedmont soon.
9. Kingfisher (16-2); last week (10)
The Yellowjackets continued their dominance by beating a sneaky-tough Anadarko team last week.
10. Caddo (16-1); last week (12)
The Bruins got a taste of State by playing a Rattan team that is probably their closest competition in Class A. Caddo survived by two in OT, giving the Bruins one of the wins of the week.
11. Fort Cobb-Broxton (20-1); last week (11)
The Mustangs beat another athletic team in Hobart, 61-46. They have just two games left before district playoffs begin.
12. OKC Crossings Christian (15-2); last week (6)
The Knights take a tumble after they lost to a good Oklahoma Christian School team while other teams around them got quality wins.
13. Roff (18-4); last week (13)
The Tigers got two convincing wins in which they once again suffocated opponents with their defense.
14. Oklahoma Christian School (16-2); last week (17)
The 15-point win against Crossings was impressive, but the Saints still have upcoming games at Christian Heritage and against OKC Millwood.
15. Weatherford (16-1); last week (14)
The Eagles had a massive game against Newcastle postponed due to weather. And at Kingfisher on Friday, Weatherford has a chance to avenge its only loss of the season.
16. Tulsa Hale (15-2); last week (16)
The Rangers have a big one coming up at Tulsa Memorial that will show where they really stand among 5A state title contenders.
17. OKC Douglass (13-1); last week (15)
All eyes will be on Terry McMorris playing against his old mates at No. 8 Del City on Friday.
18. Tulsa Holland Hall (15-2); last week (19)
The Dutch got an impressive win against Metro Christian, 80-56. While they still play lower-division competition, Holland Hall is looking like it can compete when the 5A playoffs roll around.
19. Norman (11-6); last week (18)
The Tigers beat Edmond Santa Fe, but get jumped by Holland Hall. Norman plays at Westmoore in the coming week.
20. Newcastle (16-2); last week (21)
After beating Cache, Newcastle had its game against Weatherford postponed.
21. Tulsa Edison (12-4); last week (23)
Edison beat a tricky Northwest Classen team to jump two spots.
22. Lawton (13-5); last week (20)
After losing at Tulsa Memorial by just two, you can make the case that Lawton didn’t deserve to slip at all. But considering they already beat the Chargers earlier in the season, it was a bit disappointing to see them drop that one, especially after holding an early double-digit lead.
23. Tulsa Metro Christian (16-2); last week (22)
The Patriots lost their first two games of the season, but to quality opponents in Tulsa Holland Hall and Tulsa Victory Christian.
24. Purcell (16-1); last week (24)
The Dragons beat Davis in decisive fashion, 51-19.
25. OKC Millwood (9-9); last week (25)
The Falcons beat OKC John Marshall and have crucial games against Ada and OCS ahead.
