Angels News: GM Perry Minasian 'Not Surprised' Arte Moreno Chose to Stay
Earlier this offseason, Angels owner Arte Moreno announced he'd be finding a buyer and selling the team. This week, Moreno reversed course and announced he'll be keeping ownership and trying to bring a championship back to Halos fans.
The move surprised a lot of people, but Angels general manager Perry Minasian wasn't one of them, according to his conversation with Buster Olney on ESPN's Baseball Tonight Podcast.
"People have asked, 'Are you surprised?' I’m not surprised. This guy loves baseball. He loves everything about it. He loves this organization, he loves this city. Obviously, he’s invested heavily in the city and in this team, so we’re looking forward to the year. And again, I’m in direct contact with him on a daily basis for the most part and the communication is there, the trust is there. So I’m looking forward to continue working for him."
Of course, what else is Minasian going to say? "Perry, how do you feel about the guy who will continue to write your paychecks and can fire you at any time?" "Gee, Buster, I guess I'd say he's super."
That doesn't mean Minasian is lying; it simply means he would say that whether he meant it or not and he has no incentive to be honest and forthright if he feels anything else. Moreno is the owner who gave Minasian his first GM job, so there are undoubtedly some fond feelings there, but we'll never find out exactly what he feels until he writes a book like Joe Maddon did. We're certainly not going to find out on a podcast while he's still employed by the guy they're talking about.
