Angels News: Halos May Not Add Another Starting Pitcher This Offseason After All

Phil Nevin's recent comments probably put that rumor to an end.

The Los Angeles Angels have been heavily linked to starting pitchers on the market for the last few months. They got ahead of the market and added All-Star LHP Tyler Anderson to a deal that has turned into the steal of the offseason, but it didn't seem like he would be the only move.

The Angels initially said they were going to keep their six-man rotation, and just pitch Shohei Ohtani on normal rest no matter what. With the lack of known options internally, it seemed like it made a lot of sense for the Halos to add one more starting pitcher.

However, at Spring Training, manager Phil Nevin pretty much put that rumor to rest once and for all. He made it clear that the sixth starter is actually going to be more of a "swing guy," only pitching when the Halos really need him. So, if that's the case, and the Angels already have five good starters, they're likely out on adding another starter.

When speaking about the five guys the Angels currently have — Ohtani, Anderson, Patrick Sandoval, Reid Detmers and Jose Suarez — Nevin had a ton of praise and confidence.

"We like what we have in the starting rotation, where those guys emerged from last year and what they’re potentially getting into," Nevin said. "We like where we’re at. They’re really good."

So, if you were one of the fans hoping the team would add another starter, you can officially move that energy elsewhere. Maybe to the catcher position. Or maybe to the bullpen.
