Angels News: Perry Minasian Calls Relationship With Shohei Ohtani 'Outstanding'

He feels very confident in the relationship between the two sides.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian spoke to the media over the weekend for the first time in a while. Of course, he was swarmed with questions regarding Shohei Ohtani, and his impending free agency. And of course, he did his best to dodge just about every single one of them.

While he didn't give any answers about how the potential contract negotiations were going, he did say he felt that the relationship between the two sides is "outstanding." Here's why:

"I think there’s a respect level here," Minasian said. "He chose to play here. ... And we’ve been able to agree on two deals over the last two years. And that’s not easy to do. That’s not something that happens too often."

The two deals Minasian is referring to are the one that initially brought him to the MLB in 2017, and the one the two sides agreed to earlier this offseason to avoid arbitration. In that deal, Ohtani made history as the highest-paid arbitration-eligible player ever.

Minasian seems to feel very confident in the respect the two sides have, seemingly thinking that it will help consummate a deal between the two sides.

However, many insiders have all but counted the Angels out of the race, some not even listing him among the top five landing spots.

But clearly, Minasian feels otherwise. He thinks the "relationship is outstanding," and hopes to leverage that into securing a long-term agreement with baseball's greatest two-way player. Good luck, Mr. Minasian.
