Chicago Cubs Bring in Exciting New Hire to Fill Front Office Role

The Chicago Cubs are bringing in a World Series coach to fill a front office role.

The Chicago Cubs are continuing to make changes to their front office staff as the 2024 MLB season approaches.

Now, they have hired a new director of player development in Jason Kanzler according to The Athletic. Kanzler served as an assistant hitting coach for the Houston Astros over the course of the last three seasons.

Kanzler is essentially replacing Jared Banner who was the Vice President of player development before being promoted to an assistant general manager this offseason.

Kanzler made his mark on the Astros after helping create one of the most potent offenses in MLB and propelling Houston to their second franchise World Series championship in 2022.

The 33-year-old retired from baseball in 2015 and took on an odd assortment of jobs around baseball until he was promoted to the Astros' Big League staff in 2019.

This is a significant promotion in role for Kanzler but he has proven that he can handle the role after excelling with a successful organization like Houston's.

Kanzler's departure marks yet another for the Astros but it is a promising pickup for Chicago.
