Chicago Cubs Make Roster Changes Ahead of Reds Matchup on Friday

The Chicago Cubs have shaken up their roster ahead of their second matchup with the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.

The Chicago Cubs have elected to switch up their roster a bit ahead of their second matchup with the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.

Prior to the matchup, the Cubs made one roster move involving switching up pitchers.

Chicago activated right-handed pitcher Jose Cuas from the bereavement list. In a corresponding move they have optioned left-handed pitcher Anthony Kay back to Triple-A Iowa according to the team.

Cuas was acquired from the Kansas City Royals on July 31 in exchange for outfielder Nelson Velázquez. In 11 relief appearances Cuas has compiled a shining 0.75 ERA.

As for Kay, his first stint with the club was disastrous posting a 6.35 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He was not allowed to redeem himself this time around as he never took the mound before Cuas returned.

Chicago's bullpen will get a huge boost with Cuas's return, especially as they come off an ever-important 6-2 win earlier on Friday.

The Cubs will take on the Reds in the second part of the doubleheader on Friday with first pitch slated for 5:40 p.m. CT. Cuas is slated to get the start in what will likely be a piggy back situation.

Chicago's standing within the division and Wild Card race is on the line this weekend against their divisional rival. Anything helps.
