Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction for 2024 Opening Day
The Dodgers are the betting favorites to win the World Series after adding Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Teoscar Hernandez, Tyler Glasnow and more to an already star-studded roster, and the new additions will be on full display in this two-game series. Glasnow takes the bump in this opening game, and Yamamoto has game two, while Ohtani and Hernandez beef up the middle of the order.
The Padres lost Juan Soto but have key replacements of their own. San Diego doesn’t face the same pressure of expectations this season, and they still have Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado.
The pressure rests on the Dodgers’ shoulders all season long, as it's never been World Series or bust quite like this year. Still, the Dodgers have been a force in every recent regular season, and I believe they kick off their run to a ring in winning fashion.

Yu Darvish opposes him, and this Dodger lineup has seen him plenty over the past couple of years.
Darvish is now 37 years old and appears to be slowing down after posting a 4.56 ERA last season. Darvish has quality career numbers against Los Angeles, but pairing his decline with this lethal new-an-improved Dodger lineup should result in the Dodgers reaching a key number of four or five runs scored in this game.

Glasnow’s combination of fastball and slider wipes out hitters left and right, and going against a lot of his hitters that are unfamiliar with his frame, delivery and stuff, I predict Tyler Glasnow Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-102 at FanDuel) en route to a quality start.
Darvish has also posted great numbers in March/April, to the tune of a 3.25 ERA, and even if his numbers won’t hold up over an entire year at this point in his career, he should get up for this opener, especially in the first couple of innings, doing his part to help keep this game total going under.
