Dodgers Calling Up Longtime NL West Foe From Minors: Report

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly calling up right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet from the minor leagues, via The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.

This will be Lamet's first time pitching for the Dodgers. Lamet signed with the Dodgers in February on a minor league contract that included an invitation to Spring Training. Lamet pitched 3.2 innings in Cactus League play and allowed three hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out five batters for a 2.45 ERA.

After Spring Training, Lamet began his season in Triple-A with the Oklahoma City Baseball Club. He was scheduled to start Tuesday, but presumably will be in Los Angeles instead.

Prior to signing with the Dodgers, Lamet played for the San Diego Padres from 2017-22 before joining the Colorado Rockies from 2022-23. He has 471 career strikeouts and a 4.66 career ERA. He previously earned All-MLB Second Team honors in 2020.

The move comes after the Dodgers needed five relievers to finish their 6-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. The Dodgers then used three more relievers on Sunday in their 5-4 win over the Cardinals. It's possible that the Dodgers needed another reliever after utilizing eight over the weekend.

It's also possible that an unreported injury prompted the Dodgers to call up Lamet. James Paxton is scheduled to start Monday, followed by Tyler Glasnow on Tuesday and Bobby Miller on Wednesday agianst the San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers hold a 4-2 record heading into their second home series of 2024.
