Dodgers Announce Roster Moves, Place Young Starter on 60-Day IL

A bit of housekeeping has been released as it pertains to the Dodgers’ roster.

Youngster Kyle Hurt has been optioned to the Minor Leagues after beginning the season with the club in both Korea and in the opening home series versus the Cardinals. In his place, veteran reliever Nabil Crismatt will be called up. Additionally, Emmet Sheehan was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Sheehan’s injury issues have extended to Spring Training. The Dodgers were a bit cryptic when publicly speaking about the talented right-handed pitcher. The ‘general body soreness’ tag was placed on Sheehan earlier this February. He had sparingly been throwing in Arizona before his workload was reportedly curtailed.

With him now being placed on the 60-day IL, Sheehan technically can’t be activated until the latter half of May. In recent weeks, the club revealed he had been battling with should and forearm soreness. In his first extended run as a Big Leaguer last year, Sheehan impressed – going 4-1 with a 4.92 ERA. This included flashing a heavy fastball and an above-average change-up.

Sending Hurt down to the Minor Leagues was a bit of a surprise. Briefly in 2023, Hurt demonstrated some excellent stuff out of the pen. A strong Spring Training led to him featuring for the team in Korea and also during this most recent series versus the Cardinals. The former USC pitcher has a career 1.35 ERA in three appearances (6.2 IP).

Crismatt might not have the raw stuff that Hurt or Sheehan possess, but he’s a more experienced reliever. He’s reliant more so on movement and deception rather than velocity. Throughout his professional career (four seasons), Crismatt has accrued a, 8-5 record with a 3.76 ERA.
