Dodgers Rumors: High Spending National League Squad Has Entered Dylan Cease Sweepstakes

Cease's asking price should continue rising.

Former All-MLB Second Team selection and coveted trade candidate Dylan Cease has been rumored to a number of teams, including your Dodgers, the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees, and more.

Recent intel, however, suggests that one more National League squad has entered the fold for Cease, and they happen to be a team that has had a tendency to overspend for pitchers in the past: the New York Mets.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Mets, who've already been looking into other high-end starters including the Rays' Tyler Glasnow, the Guardians' Shane Bieber, and the Brewers' Corbin Burnes, have also been looking at Cease.

Heyman adds that Cease makes a lot of sense for NYM given that he's contractually bound to his team for two more years. Conversely, guys like Glasnow, Bieber, and Burnes, are free agents after 2024, making them less appealing to the Mets brass.

"The Mets also looked into all proven starters available in trade, including White Sox ace Dylan Cease, who’d make more sense for the Mets than others since he’s contractually bound to his team for two more years."

The Mets are short high-level pitching prospects, which makes their pursuit of elite-level pitchers very difficult. Expect them to stay in the mix, but it's not going to be an easy process for them to upgrade in their most needed department, nor should it be hard for the Dodgers to outbid them.
