Red Sox Viewed as Landing Spot for Former Giants Infielder

The Boston Red Sox are viewed as a landing spot for a former San Francisco Giants infielder.

The San Francisco Giants looked to improve in 2023 when they signed veteran big-league shortstop Paul DeJong to a Major League contract, but that didn't go as planned. DeJong played in 18 games for the Giants, slashing .184/.180/.286.

He's currently playing for the Chicago White Sox, struggling at the plate again. DeJong is currently .167/.167/.433.

Despite the struggles, the eight-year veteran has proven throughout his career that he can be a positive on the diamond. He was even named an All-Star in 2019, belting 30 home runs.

Teams that have a chance to make a playoff push or are dealing with injuries could use a player of his caliber due to what he's proven in his career. DeJong, at the very least, can come in and be an average player.

He might not be what he once was, but he should be able to do enough to help a team.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed 10 teams that have a clear need for the 2024 trade deadline, speculating the Boston Red Sox as a team that needs a shortstop.

Trevor Story is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Of the replacements that Rymer lists, he believes DeJong could be a help.

Playing for the Red Sox would make it his fifth team in two years. His stint with San Francisco saw him on his third team in just one season.

Boston has played decent to start the season, sitting at 8-7. If they can keep pace and believe they have a chance to make the playoffs, they could be in the market for a veteran shortstop like DeJong.
