The SF Giants have started the month of September with six straight losses. Can they turn their fortunes around, or are the playoffs an idle dream?

The mood amongst SF Giants fans is a dour one after being swept by the Cubs to fall two and a half games outside the third Wild Card spot. As of Friday morning, their playoff chances are down to just 21%, despite being at 67% at the end of last month. That puts the Giants behind eight teams, when only six gets in.

That makes this weekend's series against the Rockies difficult to evaluate. Colorado has always played terribly at Oracle Park, so even this scuffling Giants squad is more than capable of pulling off a sweep themselves. The question that arises is, how much does that matter? With the Giants seemingly no longer controlling their own destiny, it's entirely possible that a sweep could see their playoff chances lower by Monday.

Nevertheless, the team must press on. It's never over until it's over, and strange things happen in the playoff crucible. Fans and players alike have to face this team day by day. It's the only way to keep going until you find the next bit of hope to hold onto.
